Chairman Steve is an established expert in organisational transformation, with particular experience in complex, large and difficult turnarounds. This has included extensive merger and acquisition work. He has developed a very successful turnaround track record at CEO/MD level in the public and private sector.
Steve has worked extensively in the NHS and recent clients include Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust, Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust and West Middlesex University Hospital. He has delivered CIPs across a range of NHS organisations, including a number of CIP recovery situations. Steve has real life know-how and strong interpersonal skills, backed up by first class intellectual and analytical ability. He has excellent stakeholder management skills and has worked across organisations in localities, including in Newham, where he delivered a £70 million savings programme for the local authority, having previously delivered the PCT’s CIP, turning a £7m deficit into a surplus in four months.
Managing Director Mark joined the NHS as a national management trainee in the late 1980s and worked in general management and HR roles in acute and community NHS settings. He is now a highly experienced management consultant having managed Dearden since 2002. He has worked as a substantive or interim HR in 14 different NHS organisations including Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals NHS FT, London Ambulance Service, Norfolk and Suffolk NHS FT, Princess Alexandra Hospitals NHS Trust, Oxfordshire PCT, Newham PCT, East and North Herts NHS Trust and United Lincolnshire NHS Trust.
He led the HR work on Shaping a Healthier Future, the remodeling of healthcare across NW London and has considerable expertise and experience in medical staffing, medical productivity and job planning. Mark is also an experienced coach having run over 400 coaching sessions with CEOs, directors and clinicians.
Mark was asked to chair the expert panel appointing the Director of HR to the Northern Ireland Civil service.
Mark has an MBA from Henley Management College and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (distinction). He has an Advanced Diploma in Management Consultancy and a Certificate in Advanced Professional Practice in Senior Executive Coaching and Mentoring. Mark is an MBTI Step one and Step two accredited practitioner.
Finance Director Jonathan is Dearden’s Finance Director. He is a chartered accountant with 10 years’ post qualification experience in turnaround, restructuring and advisory. Prior to joining Dearden, Jonathan worked for PwC’s Business Recovery team in London and the Thames Valley working on a variety of restructuring and advisory cases as well as various M&A projects. Subsequently he worked on a number of public sector and turnaround projects including South London Healthcare Trust where he worked as part of a turnaround team that delivered the highest CIP target as a percentage of income compared to all London acute trusts. He has also recently worked on a number of SME turnaround and restructuring projects across a variety of sectors including law, retail, leisure and construction. Jon is a Member of the Institute for Turnaround.
Director Graeme is an HR professional with more than 10 years’ experience of working as a Board Director in the NHS. He has extensive experience of managing complex change management programmes including Executive and department re-structures. Graeme has also worked within the independent sector to support the development of their Human Resources and management teams and helping them to deliver specific improvement projects. He has valuable experience in operational delivery, having managed community NHS services in Buckinghamshire as part of the transformation of services in the area. He has also been involved in a number of mergers and acquisitions within the healthcare sector including carrying out the role of Programme Director for a significant merger between mental health and community NHS providers.
As a Director/Senior Consultant, Graeme has led a number of projects including consultant job planning, working with teams in difficulty, wellbeing, staff engagement, workforce productivity, long term workforce planning and corporate restructure and savings plans. Graeme has experience of operating across health systems e.g. STPS/ACSs and used to working with organisations in financial and operational difficulty, supporting them to achieve sustainable improvements.
He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD).
HR Consultant Juliette joined Dearden HR as an HR Consultant in August 2017 and offers over 16 years’ HR management experience within the NHS and prior to this some 14 years’ as a Registered Nurse.
Prior to joining Dearden she was Head of Medical HR in an acute NHS Foundation Trust and led on the introduction of the 2016 Doctors’ in Training Contract. She also has expertise in the areas of Consultant job planning and has managed several complex cases using the Maintaining High Professional Standards in the NHS framework. Additionally, she has a wide range of generalist experience gained whilst she worked as an HR Business Partner in a busy acute NHS Trust including managing change, TUPE, redundancy, performance management, amongst other areas.
Whilst working at Dearden she has been involved in several projects including supporting restructures in NHS Trusts; an external review of disciplinary cases to improve good practice; acted as Case Investigator for investigations using MHPS; a review of Consultants’ pay, terms and conditions and provision of training in a non-NHS organisation; assessment of over 100 clinical admin staff at a large NHS Trust; review of a recruitment and medical staffing function at a large NHS Foundation Trust; undertook a specific project looking at how to increase female participation with applications for Clinical Excellence Awards; improving relationships and performance between clinicians and senior managers at an acute NHS Trust; and two-party mediation involving senior clinicians at an acute NHS Trust;
She also delivers medical staffing training and undertakes consultancy projects for Jane Cole Associates, acquired in September 2018 and now part of Dearden HR.
Juliette is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a certified workplace mediator. She is also near completion of a MSc in Occupational and Business Psychology and is a Registered Test User in Ability and Personality with the British Psychological Society and a Psychtech 15PQF practitioner.
HR Consultant Nina joined Dearden as an HR Consultant in 2019 after 17 years working in various HR Generalist and Consultancy roles across a variety of sectors including NHS, Private Healthcare and Education.
Before taking up a position with Dearden, she was Head of HR and the Strategic HR Lead for Diversity and Inclusion at St Christopher’s where she specialised in people management, employee relations and the management of change. She has delivered on several people management and leadership courses from front line managers to senior level executives. Nina is particularly interested in management development and organisational design, providing advice on high performing team structures and job roles including job evaluation processes and recruitment needs. More recently, Nina has become involved in transformational HR and cultural change.
Nina is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a certified workplace coach and facilitator. She has also completed an MA in Strategic Human Resources.
Associate Philip’s consultancy work spans coaching, leadership, organisation development, action learning and the management and delivery of sustainable change. Philip joined the NHS as a trainee in the 1970s and worked in general management and HR roles in acute and regional NHS settings. His last substantive role in the NHS was Head of OD with a Strategic Health Authority. Recent consultancy work has focussed on improving medical productivity.
Associate Rainy is an independent HR and OD consultant, with over 26 years’ experience as a senior HR and OD Manager within the NHS, working with Directors and Board members. Rainy joined the NHS in 1989 and has worked within Regional, Acute and Community organisations. Rainy has been Deputy Director of HR at Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, acting up to Director of HR on several occasions.
Since 2011, Rainy has undertaken senior HR interim and project assignments at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, Leicester University Hospitals NHS Trust, Mid Essex Hospital Services MHS Trust, Northampton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Barts Health NHS Trust, London Ambulance Service NHS Trust and most recently at London North West Hospital NHS Trust.
Rainy is qualified in 16PF and MBTI psychometric assessment, is an experienced coach and mentor and holds an MBA (HR stream), an MSC in HR Leadership, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (FCIPD).
Associate Steve began his working career as a schoolteacher with Surrey County Council. After a twenty-five year period which saw him running courses for newly qualified teachers as well as numerous INSET training days he moved to the NHS as Head of Education and Training at East Surrey PCG.
When Surrey PCT was formed an opportunity arose to move from provider-working and join the commissioning team. This enabled Steve to develop a broader work portfolio and as a result he has become a dedicated and results-driven senior manager with a highly successful background in education, learning and development as well as primary care contracting and commissioning.
Steve possesses excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and the ability to develop and maintain mutually beneficial internal and external relationships. He enjoys working with individuals and teams and aims to be as productive and successful as possible.
Associate Carol is an independent HR Consultant who has over 30 years’ experience at Director level, in healthcare staffing across HR and Operations in both the NHS and private sectors and prior to that, worked as a qualified nurse in the NHS and in Industry. A generalist HR practitioner, she has particular skills and interest in change management, including M&A.
Carol recently joined Dearden in May 2019, working on projects with HEE and with 2 Mental Health Trusts.
Carol holds an MBA (Cranfield) and Chartered Grad CIPD status. She is also a qualified ILM7 Coach
Caroline joined Dearden in August 2020 and supports all aspects of business development and marketing. Prior to joining Kingsgate, Caroline has over 10 years of experience working in these fields in a diverse range of sectors as an employee and as a consultant. She has experience kick-starting marketing and business development in Start-up firms as well as developing strategies for the more established.
Team Administrator Sam joined us in July 2016 and provides administrative and project support. She is a qualified Project Manager and has 15 years’ experience of working in consultancy on public sector procurement projects.
Bookkeeper Sharon joined the company in August 2017. She is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant of 13years and has worked within the finance Sector for over 25years. Prior to joining us Sharon worked for DHL Express UK as Head of Financial Planning & Analysis managing a team and budget in excess of £130m. Sharon is a mother to 3 young children and in her spare time enjoys running.
